811 Area Code Decommissioning

Effective Date: January 30, 2007

Highlights: The 811 (*811/811/#811) code is being reclaimed by the CRTC to be reassigned for provincial health services in Atlantic Canada.

Bell Mobility clients roaming in these provinces who had previously dialled this code were routed to Mobility client care.

Newfoundland and Labrador have already launched their new 811 health care service and any Mobility client who calls 811 in these areas will be connected to this health care service.

The service will be removed on January 30 2007 in New Brunswick , Nova Scotia , and Prince Edward Island . Bell Mobility clients dialling the 811 code in these provinces will hear a message indicating that they must now dial *611. This message will play until such time as each individual province launches their new 811 service.

After January 30, clients will need to dial *611 to get Mobility client care. There will be no long distance or roaming charges incurred to make this call.

If a client roaming in Atlantic Canada dials *611, the following client care hours will apply: \
  • Monday to Friday 8am to 9pm EST
  • Saturday 9am to 6pm EST
